A really really funny one!

Some 35+ yrs ago - guruji was in haridwar for the kumbh mela and he saw a naga baba sitting near the banks. So for some reason Big Boss decided to go and talk to him - and he went there and asked - baba could we discuss some knowledge please?
he haughtily looks at guruji and said - humpf! You??? What knowledge can you take??
Guruji smiled at him and said - thank you - I got it!
(He told us he learnt how never to be rude and stressed out like that naga baba)
And it doesn’t end - :D :D that person looked at G and said with great importance - you know what I can do?????????????
And Guruji said - no!
He said - I can - with a rope tied to my groin - pull a truck!
(And with this the whole hall burst out laughing :D)
And Guruji thought in his head at that time - what’s the use??? A truck can be started with a turn of the key!! What’s the point pulling it.. with your... well....

Two stories on how people are unhappy and don’t even realize and what is truly being free and happy!

It is said in one of the stories in Ramayana that a man once mercilessly beat a dog - and so the dog went to Ram for justice. The man was caught and Ram asked the dog - what punishment should I give him? The dog said - Make him a head of an ashram!
Ram found it very strange and asked why do you say that? The dog replied saying - I was one last life! I know what a punishment it is :D
The moral here was how people remain unhappy! Some think that being in this world is bondage and be unhappy! Others think they have renounced the world and yet remain unhappy! And it's even worse - because then you have followers!! And your followers won’t keep you at peace for sure :D

The next story was about how a man complained to a swamiji about how his children were no more paying attention to him and leaving him to do all the work and shouting at him etc etc. The swamiji felt compassionate and advised him - why don’t you come to my ashram? I will make sure you have food and shelter and you don’t need to work and when your kid’s wants to meet you let them come!
Suddenly the man got angry and started shouting at the swami saying - do want to break my family up??? What are you advising? I should move away? Who will take care of them etc etc
The swamiji got up and left.
The moral here was how people are unhappy and yet in that they find pleasure and not even aware they are stuck in this bondage!

Gudi Padwa Satsang

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

WHAT A SATSANG !!!!!!!! simply out of this world.............
We decided to celebrate Guddi Padwa with a satsang by none other than Prasana Prabhu. We had already expected the satsang to be GREAT !!....and for once (and gladly so :) ) one of the sutras of the part 1 course (expectations reduce joy) didnt hold good...because the satsang wasnt just great, it was AWESOME,......multiplying our joy manyfold ! :) :)
Prasanaji, inspite of the heat and the smoke of the tortoise coil ( what to do !!! tooo many macchars), outdid himself...if thats possible.... He decided to sing the "old" bhajans and rendered each one soooo soulfully that it was hard to keep oneself from just closing the eyes and drifting off onto another plane of peace and bliss. Everyone sang along and swayed and clapped....mesmerized by the singing that came completely from the heart. Towards the end, when the audience demanded one more bhajan and then ...one more please.... he changed the tempo and got us all up , swaying and dancing..... just beautiful , joyful and peaceful smiles all around !
After the satsang, Prasanaji spoke a bit about seva and the reasons why seva should be done. Not quoting in exact words... this is my gist....Never do seva under pressure, do it beacause you want to give , to share , to care. Enjoy the process of seva and the results will be taken care of....obviously they will be fruitful :).....Do the seva not just to help another , but with the awareness and understanding that it is actually you....who are being helped the most . The process of seva is helping you to grow....in many ways . He also spoke about how when problems come in our lives....obstacles are thrown our way....we need to face them as a challenge and not complain and whine.....why me??. It is the Guru who creates these "challenges " for us to help us grow and it is He who gives us the strength to overcome them. So, next time, a "challenge" comes your way....thank Him and work through it with faith in Him and yourself....The satsang finally ended with a high tempo.....jai jai radha raman hari boll....and lots of happy smiles and yummy prasad !
The volunteers did a great job of organising the programme and more than that had an absolutely great time while organising and even after the event !!! Lots of smiles and laughter spiced with good natured cribbing and leg pulling.....NO ONE is spared !! :) :)
I really hope in the future, whenever such events are announced or even for any other seva projects, more people will come forward and offer their time. You will definitely get "seva ka mewa" but trust me....you will have so much fun...it will be a beautiful memory etched forever in your mind....Jaigurudev....and keep smiling.....:)
